It's All About Derek
I have loved drawing and art for as long as I can remember. In terms of formal education, I studied art when I went through the advanced Vocational Arts program at Wexford Collegiate in Scarborough, Ontario as a teenager, where half my day was art. In the Independent Illustration program at Seneca College, I honed my artistic skills further, and learned some new ones, while also developing business and marketing skills. I also have a bachelor of arts in Specialized Honours English from York University, and love to write.
I loved art long before receiving any formal training though, and that love started as a child, with children's books, comics, and Saturday morning cartoons. Together they ignited my passion for reading, writing, drawing, and creating. Nobody should ever deny children opportunities for exploring such endless worlds of imagination, worlds that can inspire their own imagination and creativity. I had endless hours of reading, writing, and drawing as a child, and while other kids wanted to be firemen and policemen, I wanted to draw comics, and write novels.
So here I am today, with that same imagination and creativity still very much alive. Whether it is comics, children's illustration, book covers, packaging, advertising art, or whatever, I bring that same passion and love to it, and always strive to do my best work and improve my skills. I believe that a big part of happiness is doing what you love, and if you have pride and true passion for it, you will always want it to reflect your best work, and you will always want to improve.
That is me, and that is my philosophy. If I can do anything for you or your company, please contact me, and let's discuss it.
